My question is Who owns the credit card companies like visa, Discover Card, discover? Hoping for any answer. Another question on my mind: Hi all - I've had luck with validation on multiple accounts with different creditors where I did not list my account number on my letters. However, my wife recently sent a couple validation letters but one company has asked that she respond with either her ssn or her account number, as they could not find an account for her.. |

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the answer to that question. I'll do some investigation and get back to you if I got an good answer. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably could help you..

I would fire off a letter that says something to the effect of:.
Jackmonkeys,. We wrote you to request validation of this account because we don't know what you're trying to collect, we have had no business with you, and we're not aware of any business that we have had with you. If we had an account number and knew we had a balance on an account with you as you allege, we would have paid it.. Happy hunting,. [No signature here]. Model citizen unless you can prove otherwise.. |

That's what I was thinking too.... but... how can they delete it if they honestly can't find the account? I know... I know... that's hard to believe - but without me giving them an account number or a ssn(no way I'm giving that) - how can I expect them to delete it? Or, should I just simply request that they mail me indicating they can not find a valid account, and then forward that to the CRA?.
Thanks for the quick response!.. |

Give them only the truncated account number from your credit reports.....
Unless you were replying to a letter of theirs, in which case give them the account number on the letter.. |
|
What information was given in the original letter? At a minimum, you need to have included THEIR number or what appears on the credit reports...otherwise, you will encounter an argument in any prospective litigation that you failed to act in a good-faith manner...
