Question I have... Which is the best one visa card or Discover Card ? Looking forward for any response. My other question... My DW asked me about applying for a Macy's card about two weeks ago and I told her to go for it but apply at the store. Well she is working late tonight and decided to apply online. She just called me and said she got a message that say's "thank you for applying.".

Does anyone with Macy's experience know if this is common or is this a decline? Do they do instant approvals?.

Thanks.

E..

Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the answer to that question. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I got an anything. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably can answer it..

I didn't know the trick to apply in store - only got a $200 line. When I went to the store, the sales person had to call a #, and then I had to answer some L/N questions the telephone CSR then bumped my limit to $1000. I guess it's much better to go in person and apply if you want a decent line with macy's..

Congrats on the approval,.

From what I've read around here, apping for Macys online puts.

You in the leper pile with Macys..

Either app In-Store or skip them. If you use a computer, apparently you are.

A criminal with one goal in mind. Screwing Macys out of millions, so you WILL be.

Stuck in toy limit hell forever with online Macys Apps..

YMMV, but I doubt by much....

I applied online, started with a ONE HUNDRED, yes, 1 hundred dollar limit. Had the card a little over a year and my limit is now 1600.00. Not too bad, IMO. I <3 Macys..

I applied online and was approved for 400... had the card a little over 2 years and CL is now 8k+ it really doesn't get better than 3 mos hard free GLI IMO..

Nonetheless, if I could do it over, I'd apply in store ONLY since there is apparently a neg inference to opening acct on line that can for some be difficult to shake. IME it hasn't been a problem at all that I can tell but some have reported difficulty w/ CLI, etc...

The vast majority of f/b on macy's store card indicate generous, frequent CLI- so no surprises here really.

FYI, not everyone has similar experiences with Macy's, esp. after their lending standards changed,.

But it doesnt matter. Savetherobots is going to argue the point despite facts pointing either.

Direction, so again, YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY w/ Macys...

Hopefully Macys treatment of my acct was an isolated event, but I doubt it..

Time will tell in the end.. We'll see where the Macys threads go over the.

Next 12 months. I my case, it was the right call, for others, it may not be...

By most accounts it appears to be..

I don't have to argue that macy's is typically a supremely generous, rather lenient lender since there are ample posts here and elsewhere which support this fact.

You cancelled the card, fine be done with it, but then you want to crap post on yet another macy's app thread to boot... Sheesh..

Get a grip and move on!.

Macy's has been quite nice to me..

I app'd online back in May, they gave me a $500 GL. Activated my card in store (with the L/N questions) and was raised to $1,000. Called about a month ago and was given a CLI to $1,500..

So in six months my GL has tripled. Not a bad run so far..

FWIW I use the card pretty much monthly and PIF every month...

When I applied online in Dec it was an instant approval. Cl is only 100.00 dollars it sucks but Iam glad to have them I was blacklisted because I defaulted with an affiliate company. I got denied twice online and it said thanks for applying. When I got the instant approval it said something like welcome to the stars. Then it gave me an account number to shop online. Op you should have her call cs to find out if app was approved. Best of luck..

Eric,.

Dont wait, just call in and ask the status of that application. They will more than likely transfer you to credit granting.. There is a good chance all they need is further verification..

Sonic, do you enjoy trolling around the Macy's posts? Youve posted nearly the same comments in about 4 different threads so far. and thats only over the past 3-4 days.... No, not everyone likes the answer they get from us. But id say it's almost always with good reason those decisions are made. I believe I commented in another thread, your credit is iffy at best and more than likely I would have made the same decison (as stated before, all assumptions, I would need to see your account/credit myself to make a real decison). Im sure you will respond with so&so gave me X credit limit with same score/credit! Again, those are acutal banks (visa/MC), not deparment store cards.

And no, we dont assume assume anyone using a computer is a thief.. We assume everyone is. Thats why the steps and verification used are in place. You will thank us for the "minor" inconvience when someone is stopped from trying to open an account with your info. We (me & bubba) have warned about openeing online simply because there are additional steps to verify who you are since your not standing in the store with an ID. (yes I know thats not fool proof either)..

I'm merely trying to even out the love fest for Macys. 2 years ago, I would have.

Been on the bandwagon, but the new standards are a joke. My goal is to dillute.

The Macys lovefest because the reality of their lending does not match the They-Can-Do-No-Wrong.

Attitude around here..

Fear not.. I'm almost done.. maybe another thread or 2, then just the occasional..

I spoke to an exec CSR this morning actually and she asked what she could do to keep my business.

Other than a CLI. I informed her that I need a $200 credit account that *MIGHT* grow to $300.

By next year like I need a hole in the head. Her Customer Service was excellent. I just disagree.

With Macys "new lending standards". When I have 15K in TLs, 12 months of perfect history with.

Macys and they CLD me from $200 down to $100, there is a problem and it's not me..

Am I deserving of a $3000 limit? Hell no and it would be a huge mistake to give me one,.

But I've earned more than $200, so I'll stick with lenders that are willing to work with me..

Its a matter of opinion frankly and I've made my decision..

As far as acct security, there are plenty of ways to genuinely protect accounts. Marking.

One as "leprous" because it was opened online however, is not one of them, imo..

I protect information at a hospital. I'm quite familiar with genuine security vs. the appearance thereof...

I got the same thank you for applying message last night when my wife tried. When I was approved for mine it said I was approved instantly and then they sent me an email and I had to call and verify a couple of things. I got a $600 limit to start with, still at that point. I'm assuming hers is a decline because it didn't say she was approved and there was no email from macys either...

Ok... going to humor myself... Answer some questions for me..

So far I'm aware you had a $200 credit line with Macys for 12 months of which your pay was ontime..

1. Were you previously late with Macys?.

2. How long did you have the Macys card in total?.

3. How much was your total spending on the Macys card since opened?.

4. How much in the last 3 months have you spent / paid on the Macys card.

5. How much in the last 6 months havey ou spent / paid on the Macys card.

Im aware you have 15K in total credit lines..

1. How many of those tradelines were opened in the last 12 months?.

2. How many of those tradelines were opened in the last 24 months?.

3. How old is your oldest tradeline? Inactive or active.

4. How old is your oldest tradeline? ACTIVE revolving credit (credit card).

5. What is your total utilization of that 15K?.

6. Does this 15K include auto loans or any other type of credit other than revolving?.

Im aware you have multiple baddies. Any way you shake the stick at this one it's not good..

If I think of anything else Ill add it.....

I realize I'm not prime and I'm not asking for prime treatment, but Macys, had I not EECBed in Oct/09.

Would have me @ a $100 CL, CLDed from $200, after a year of perfect history. Most recent Derog is now.

3 years 11 months and it's PAID. Only unpaid is a medical for $197 and it's in dispute..

Am I a perfect consumer in the credit world? Nope.. never claimed to be..

BUT, my credit union and every other lender I've dealt with has started me higher than this garbage,.

Hasnt CLDed me and in some cases have given me CLIs. In all cases, the amounts are reasonable. My.

Highest limit is $1500 on a Discover credit card and 3K on a store card (trifecta). Those are the limits I can work with.

AND maintain without a problem. I could probably manage a 3K Discover credit card in actuality, but I screwed up.

In the past, so I LIKE taking baby steps, so I can rest assured that *I'm* ready for the limits..

$200 tho, CLDed down to $100 for raising my scores nearly 100 pts is odious and a waste of.

Everyone's time, mine and Macys..

Again, I'm sure others are having great experiences with Macys, but thats not the whole.

Story and the entire point of my posts. Macys WAS a good rebuilder for almost anyone,.

Now they are not for some. Is that a crime? No, but there is zero reason for me to keep the.

Account when I have so many others in much better shape and with what my experiences.

Have been so far, SEEM to be much better lenders. They at least seem to work in the world.

Of practical reality, rather than the WonderLand I've found myself in with Macys..

Time will tell....

Ok....

Good:.

Never late with Macys.

Total utilization.

All trade lines paid as agreed.

Bad:.

Amount spent / paid at Macys. equates to about $30 a month.. Not really bad but wouldnt help..

5 new trades in the last 12 months (this a lot of new credit).

12 new trades in the last 24 motnhs (this is REALLY a lot of new credit).

17 months total credit history, This is very very short in the credit world.

And of course your baddies... I know you think they are "ok" but to me looking at a CR, I see they did this, what prevents them from doing it again??.

Your Bad FAR outweighs your good. Just the age of your accounts along is enough to be cautious granting credit. And remember, I have not been in the Credit Granting Department since long before the economy took a turn and we changed our standards.. So this decision, would be based on how things were done prior to all that. 200, Id give ya that without much of an issue, 500 would be a pretty big MAYBE. Things like are you putting cash down or buying a big ticket item (furniture) etc.

I know your still going to disagree with me. But again, keep in mind Im speak from PRE "crappy economy" standards... Your credit profile is just not very good......

In the interest of genuine answers to the question:.

Why give me a $100 limit, then CLI me to $200, then CLD me to $100 when.

My CRs constantly improved? Esp. puzzling when other creditors are just fine.

With higher amounts, based on my albeit recent performance..

What makes Macys credit so special?.

I agree $350 in a year is low usage, but with $100 limit for 5 months, then.

A 200 limit for 4 months, back down to a $100 limit, how in the hell would.

Anyone actually USE the card?.

Please dont say charge socks and PIF every month. They should be trying to earn.

My business, not make me jump thru hoops for the sake of appearances. Buying.

Socks every month and PIF would be just that.. appearances and it would tell them,.

You or anyone else exactly nothing about my real ability to manage debt other than.

I apparently have signed up for Bill Payer.

This isnt about mud slinging, but I can state as a fact that all my other.

Creditors have treated me better in terms of CLIs, CLDs, etc..

I know I'm not Prime and I dont think asking Macys for higher than a $200 limit.

Is a Prime-credit expectation, after a year. My reports are leaps and bounds better.

Than when I apped Jan/09 and all I've gotten from Macys was the finger..

The most frustrating part about all of this isnt losing the tradeline..

Honestly, it's because no one at Macys, including Executive Customer Relations.

Can even tell me WHY I was CLDed. THATS where the indignant attitude.

Comes from, frankly..

Its not that I consider myself prime and that I expect creditors to rain down.

1000s in CLs, it's that I simply expect a reason beyond "we're not sure, but enjoy your new limit!".

When I ask why. Maybe thats unreasonable, but I dont think so..

Thanks for your time Taylinth, regardless of your preconceived notion, I do.

Appreciate the post. I would have thought I made that clear in my PM..

Honestly, whats the point of CLDing a $200 account down to $100?.

Why not just close the stupid thing? $100 in credit does no one any good...

Thanks for your comments. The entire point is education and you've given all of us.

A better picture of how things work inside Macys and to an extent with other store cards..

I certainly hope I dont get CLDed on other cards, but in this world right now, who knows..

Thanks to CB I know how to optimally manage credit and I'll continue to do that..

As far as Macys, I've settled on agreeing to disagree with them. I have other accounts.

That I can/will use, including a few other store accounts with higher limits.

I dont mind losing Macys.. It was a tiny limit and open or closed it still helps with.

Age at this point. Its still a positive 12 month run on a revolving. I dont think it.

Will really hamper me for a few years (lowering AAOA), but by then, I should.

Have more than enough positive weight to drown it.. At least thats the plan..

Seriously tho, thanks for the input. Whether me or anyone else agrees is moot..

The insights are what is valuable in this thread..
