If I were to make a moral suggestion that was absurd, If I were to tell you that you should live in poverty, have no material possessions, eat only brown rice and vegetables and give all your money to the poor...that suggestion would not make you uncomfortable, it might even make you laugh..

Moralizing only makes us feel uncomfortable when we feel they may be right. That uncomfortable feeling is what is called a conscience..

The only person I impose my morality on is my eleven year old daughter. She's pretty good about that on her own, but sometimes she still needs reminding. Sometimes she even reminds me..

Everyone else, it's a discussion. We are all adults here (I assume) and have reached the age where we can make these decisions on our own. An adult should not be threatened by such a discussion..

My own sense of morality requires that I discuss it when relevant. In my view, saying nothing while someone else does or plans something immoral is the same as endorsing it, which would make me partially responsible..

At the same time, I understand that everyone has a different sense of morality. We all grow and learn. My own sense of morality has evolved over the years, there are things I did in my youth that I would not do today. I don't expect everyone to agree with my moral opinion, nor bend to it...

No matter how you live your life, there's going to be somebody that doesn't approve. If you're religious, there are going to be members of other religions or athiests that think you're wrong. If you're liberal, there are going to be conservatives that think you're an idiot. If you're young, there are going to be older people that think you're too inexperianced to know anything, and there are young people that think older people don't know about the modern world..

I could go on and on with that, but I think you see where it's going..

The point is that in order to function, at some point you have to make a decision about who's opinion matters to you. You're not going to make everyone happy, so who do you want to make happy? Why?.

Me? I value the opinions of those that I love and that have earned my respect. That doesn't mean I always agree with them, but if someone I respect tells me that I'm wrong or I'm being an idiot, I will pause for a moment and check myself..

For the most part I don't. I've looked at those that have been critical so far and read some of the OTHER things they have said. Most of them are not people who's opinions I value..

Some exceptions:.

Fla-tan: He's chosen to post in multiple threads that I give bad information. He makes them vague statements without naming specifics. When challenged he can only come up with one solid example that I've already copped to. I don't care what he thinks of me, but I do care if he slanders me..

Humblenarc: Former moderator, may have more influence than the average user. I suspect he likes to imply he has more influence than he really does. I don't care what he thinks either, but if he chooses to he could be a problem. He has made threats..

Ok, thanks for the answers. I'm glad to hear your persistence here amounts to something more than proving something to humblemarc (or anybody else), and I hope you learn what you seek. By the way, humblemarc has never been a Creditnet moderator, although I'm sure he'll be happy to hear that you consider him to be influential. If you do hope to prove something to him, perhaps you'll also take a minute to reflect upon whether or not you spend time "proving" things to other people relatively unknown to you in your offline life as well. If not, great. :).

P.S. to Mycroft: Greg Fisher does not share much of your philosophy. As webmaster of CreditScoring.com and CreditAccuracy.com, he was a serious irritation for Equifax and other CRAs and is a stalwart proponent of FCRA and FDCPA implementation so long as the affiant is telling the truth. I'm surprised you've not heard of Fisher before because he is actually quite famous as a consumer advocate who lobbied extensively for opening up credit scoring to consumers. This.

I think there is some distrust of new people here but I think it's exaggerated when the new person comes in trying to be a "Vet." Many of the vets here have spent many, many hours of their time helping people with credit problems. Some people come here and introduce themselves first before they start giving advice. Would you trust someone who came to your door and claimed they were an expert at something. I think you would need some proof of their expertise, not just them saying they are an expert. I can say I am an expert but the proof shows otherwise(all of my questions)..

I think MOST people leave their personal opinions away from the forum, you didn't start off that way..

This board is not about personal opinions. Seems people that have recently come here forget that. This board is about making a nonjudgemental educated statement to answer the consumers question. That is why this forum is falling apart. That is why so many vets have left. people could come here for answers and not have to explain themselves.

Now they have to post these monstrous paragraphs defending themselves and the rest of us who stayed spend our time correcting the mistakes and propping up the egos of those whose feelings were hurt. I think comments like that are far more destructive to Creditnet than credit-related comments made by people with whom the majority of us may disagree. Nobody has asked you to baby this forum, picantel, but I'm asking you to quit acting like a baby..
