First question I got is What would be a good AD for me to place for my Lending Tree mortgage business? Thanks in advance for any answer. Another question... Man, the holidays have been good so far for my wife (with my help on her files and negotiating techniques). Capital One offered her a PLATINUM VISA with a $300 credit line, 18.9%apr and $59 fee. I was like "You have to be kidding, oh wait it's Cap1".

So I call on her behalf (she called and spoke with rep and authorized me to negotiate)..

I told them she just got approved for BofA with $2500 line and Citi with $4000 line and apr's no higher than 12.74% and no fees(this is true). Now mind you she has some late payments (some 90 days, but that was 2 years ago) but we have gotten all to update with Pays As Agreed and removed the bad status, but the lates still show..

SO anyways, talking to capital one, I tell them that their offers are just not competitive and we are going to cancel. Immediately the CL is raised to $3500 because of her "Excellent Lending Tree credit score (they pulled TU which was 667 at the time) and her OUTSTANDING payment history..

What report are they looking at? heh. Also they waived the annual fee, but would not budge on the APR until 3 months pass..

Now me with a Cap1 can only attain a $700 line no matter what I say or do (so I canceled it) and the closest account I have to that was my Universal card at $5000 CL. I have no lates ever, nothing neg at all. My min. score on all 3 CRA's is 690, with TU being 704. Guess it's like playing Russian Roulette with Cap1..

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the answer to that question. I'll do some research and get back to you if I discover an good answer. You should email the people at Lending Tree as they probably could help you..

Well yeah, they all give you enough to kill yourself with their product. Just strange with Cap1. I never have a problem with any other CC company in getting lower APR's or increased credit etc. Cap1 is my nemesis though when it comes to my accounts. Heck I even got AMEX to lower my APR to 8.49% on my Blue account and Fleet to offer 0% again on BT till November 2003 and increase my CL by $3000. I won't mention MBNA as they give out CL increases like clockwork for really no apparent reason and alway will increase it seems if you call...

Use.

To contact Capital One. Tell them you appreciate the changes but would now like to use the card and with that interest rate you can't..

Tell them you'd like the 8.9 No Hassle Plat card and detail your other cards..

Be nice and see what happens. You might get Plat or just an apr reduction. but I'd try this route..

Also, if you have any balances... throw out a balance transfer offer but only if you get their 0% offer for bts... then a "goto" rate of 8.9 ;).

You'll end up talking with their exec dept... don't tell them you know of this board. just act normal and ask how they can help you. In my experience, changing aprs and getting "no annual fee" as a feature (not a waiver) on your terms has been the easiest of changes....

But I like 0%... so I'd try for a bt intro rate too. clearly your wife got "misanalyzed" originally.. and would have likely gotten better terms originally had the 3500 credit line initially been given..

Oh... once you're talking with them and you've gotten her card done... do a "by the way... I have a Cap1 card too... " ;) they're nice in that dept and won't mind helping you make your card more useful...

I already cancelled my Cap1 months ago. She has the 0% BT till June I believe. Then she goes to 8.9 on BT, but 18.9 on purchases. I told them we are not going to use the card after the 0% BT has expired, but no real change other than a goto of 8.9 fixed for BT in the future..

8.9 BT is worthless to me, I can get much better with MBNA, AMEX, CITI, HHLD. Fleet, and BofA..

I am not too concerned with it, we are going to combine her line with her other Cap1 to make it easier down the road when we want to haggle some more (obviously keeping her older card active and closing the new account). Her card is already Platinum status..

I am not a fan of PFB. I like reading stuff there and using that in my phone conversations, but I never get results from posting there, it seems no one even reads the things half the time. I did get something back from Discover once after I posted on PFB basically saying we understand your complaint and situation, but we are not going to do anything about it unless you send it via USPS. I did, they replied doing what I wanted, but they don't seem to care (imho) about the PFB postings...

That's the thing, it got "misanalyzed" in our favor. She has lates on her TU report that they pulled. I have added her name to my 3 oldest and largest CC's. It has only shown up on TU not EQ or EXP yet. BofA and Citi pulled her TU. Also her TU report FICO has the most lates, but when the CSR at CAP1 talked to me they didn't even see the lates as they said her payment history was "outstanding".

Not to mention 3 90 day lates to Discover and a 60 day to Associates. Granted I have cleaned these up somewhat as far as account status's, but the lates still show. Her FICO is normally 620, but for some reason TU is showing 667 (not FAKO either). I don't think they pulled full report, I think they just pulled a score and summary of balances (she has about $1000 revolving right now)...
