I'm stumped. I'm not so sure what is the right answer. I'll do some research and get back to you if I find an answer. You should email the people at Lending Tree as they probably can answer it..

Yup, I was looking for more detailed information, but there isn't any. That ppt presentation is very general info. Hope someone can find more info on triad...

Basically, Providian (with as many accounts as they have) need to find a happy medium so as to keep competitors from stealing away their best and to "reprice" underperforming accounts. Looks like this Triad software can accuately determine who will yield the most profits and those that are on track to miss payments. How it is supposed to this, if it even can, is questionable. My guess it is some suave marketing on behalf of Fair Isaac. But, if other heavy hitters in the CC biz use it, then providian is normalizing on industry standards rather than being a renegade. I'm dumping them in a couple months regardless.

Thoughts anyone?...

That is what we are discussing - it's FICO's "Triad.".

I am waiting to find out how good it is. ;) My other cards are raising limits and lowering rates for me..

PVN is totally in the dark. I have 16.99% on one card, and 19.99% on the other. They keep sending me cash advance checks at 24.99%, and letters saying "make providian your card of choice while shopping this holiday season." Not likely. Oh Excuse me, they did send me an offer for 4.99% on purchases for 3 months - the holiday deal, I think. But I am not running up a balance for the holidays. It's all going on the green charge card, or it will be cash if they don't take AmEx..

Since Citibank and AmEx are giving me better and better deals, I have waited, hoping PVN would get a clue...

I'm totally with you on PVN and those stupid cash advance checks. I get one in the mail like clockwork every single month. 23.99? I'd be better off with the local Lending Tree loan shark and at least I'd get individualized customer service!..

Yep. Count me in on those checks too. Hard to beleive they have the audacity to think that customers would actually use them. Unless they are doing predatory lending exercises and didn't HH get busted for something similar?..

I think you are overestimating how much the general public knows/cares about credit and the different banks that issue credit cards. We all associate Providian with subprime and if we were in the position to accept a credit card as payment for something and someone handed us a Providian card, we might think we knew something about their credit..

The truth is, no one else but us cares who issues someone else's credit card. And Providian has some super-prime customers...

Dave, I understand that. And you are right, Providian does have super-prime customers and the new accounts they are adding (some 2 million) have prime FICO scores. I was making the point that those in the know, and I think there are alot more than you think, realize Providians past and still view this company as negative...

I immediately paid off and closed my account when they jacked the rate up to 29.99% and an $80 annual fee..

I bet the cash advance was likely about 40%.. but I didn't hang around long enough to find out..

They can shove their rate up where the sun don't shine...
