My first question is What is the difference (if any) with a Discover Card (or visa) giftcard and prepaid card? Thanks in advance for any answer or 2. Another question... I called them and asked about the membership:.

If a person has to live in Oklahoma - No they can live in other states..

Can a person just become a member of one of the organizations they list without having to work for that org. - Yes, you can join one of the org's and after you have a membership with Tinker you do not need to keep up the org membership/pay dues every year..

They have a very long list of membership companies and organizations. It is not defined which is a member company and which is a member organization. The rep gave one example of one of the org's that a person can join and then get in with TFCU. That org is the Computer Club of OKC..

CCOKC membership fees:.

Regular-Single $30.

Regular-Couple $45.

Student (Fulltime) $20.

Senior (55+) $25.

Senior Couple $30.

Senior Combo (CCOKC + SeniorNet) $60/$70 single/couple.

Lifetime $200.

There is a very long list of companies/organizations on the TFCU site and there may be another org that is cheaper to join..

I used to belong to them years (and years) ago but I let my membership lapse because the branch off base was extremely difficult to get into (poor planning with their driveway and the roadway) But they.

Used.

To be very good with loan approvals - way back then..

Since they recently opened a new branch closer to me I'm thinking of going back to them..

Any feedback about this CU and their products?.

I'm stumped. I'm not so sure what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some research and get back to you if I discover an anything. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably could help you..

Thank you; great information, Chi!.

Does anyone know if they do a soft inquiry or a hard inquiry on your credit report for opening just a checking or savings account after becoming a member ?

Whenever I had gone in for a loan I never had any problems getting approved in the short time while I was sitting there. Of course, this was a few years back and things may have changed..

Since I have EX frozen I may call tomorrow and speak with the rep I spoke with today about it. He seemed pretty knowledgeable and it sounded like he's been with them for a long time. He was extremely nice and said if anyone gave me a hard time when I signed up to throw his name around and let them know they'd have to answer to him.

One of the most pleasant CSR's I think I've ever spoken with..

I tried to contact the same rep I spoke with yesterday but nobody was available in that dept..

The CSR I did speak with said that they do pull a credit report when opening a checking or savings..

(I only asked about pulling CR's for opening checking or savings and didn't mention applying for a Discover card or loan when opening checking/savings).

I explained that I had two of my CR's frozen and asked her which one they pull so that if it's one of the frozen ones I can thaw it. She put me on hold and came back and said that since it would just be opening a checking or savings that it would be no problem if they couldn't check my CR..

I tried to find out which CRA they used when they do pull but she claimed she wasn't sure. I don't know if she actually didn't know of if she didn't want to say. Sometimes I feel when asking that question that it's a big secret that they won't share..

I also asked if they pull another CRA if the one they usually check is frozen, again she was unsure...

Thank you for checking into this! That's great to hear that they'd be willing to skip doing a hard inquiry..

That happened to me one time. I called Kohls' credit customer service department and asked which CRA that they use for residents in my state. She said that they're not permitted to disclose that..

Does Tinker FCU participate in shared branching ? .

I was looking at this part of their site for any mention of surcharge free ATMs and didn't see any mention of being able to use COOP ATMs.

I'm not sure if they do or not. Their website doesn't seem to be search friendly..

They do show up on the CUServiceCenter site as being on the CO-OP shared branching network. Though the CUSC does have this disclaimer "Please note: Not all financial institutions listed under the credit union search feature accept guest members at their branches."..
