First off, Registering Vanilla Discover Card in Canada? Hoping for any comment. My 2nd question... I havent seen this anywhere so I am asking .....

When I originally got my credit cards a million years ago I had to put down my income and they amex, mastercard, mervyns, jc penny etc called my employer to verify my income..

That was when was 18 I'm now 40 I no longer have thoes credit cards over the last 10 years I have one by one paid them off and eliminated all my cards I dont have any in collections they are all just closed some dont even show anymore on my credit report....

Had I had the knowledge I have now from credit boards I would not of closed them.

On my credit report is the following.

A car loan $16,000. (in good standing but at a high intrest rate).

One student loan $9,000.

The negitives are.

An overpayment from the department of homeland security $1,600. from when I worked for them 6 years ago that I just found out about 6 months ago (it looks like a bad loan gone to default).

1 hospital bill $40,000. that should of fallen off 1/2/10 ( I will give it till the end of the month) but my debt to income ratio is off.

It looks like I make little to nothing when I really make and have been making 70 thousand a year.

How do I change this? it looks like my 16 thousand dollar auto loan is even with my income.

I think my credit score would change and maybe I'm wrong if it looked like I have a decent income.

How do I change this ? what prooff do I have to show them?.

I welcome any and all advice..

Your income is not a factor in FICO scoring since it does not appear on your credit report. When you apply for a loan you tell the lender your income and then they factor that against the amount of your debt (in particular the monthly payments on the good installment accounts). This is an internal process that doesn't affect anything other than the approval consideration for that one loan...

Reports show debt vs available credit. Income is not tracked..

When credit lines were closed you saw a shrinkage in gap between the two...

Okay so maybe I have this wrong my fico depends on the 4 following.

Amount of debt.

Amount of new credit.

Length of credit history.

And payment history.

But I have gone on to all 3 reports and got each individual report (i have the monthly service) now I'm not sure wich one I was reading but it said something to the effect of your debt to income ratio effects your credit worthiness and it had a chart you know they all have there little charts that tell you all kinds of info they have compiled about you.

So I'm like wait a min how do they know how much I make?!!!! looking at my employment history on all 3 reports they are jobs I had after college so I was thinking this is not good and I should change it but I couldnt find anything about it on the forums......

Maybe I misunderstood what I read about debt to income ratio .. I dont know .... I am going to go back and re read it..

DTI is something a lender calculates, some lenders do not consider certain debts, debt for the purpose of their DTI..

Utilization is total revolving debt/total available debt, and affects your FICO (lower is better)..

My bad!! thanks everyone I figured it out .... it is a chart that the credit agency had and has nothing to do with how much I actually make but it implies that it does deceitful bastards!..
