Quick question: POLL: When was the last time someone approached you and asked if you take Discover Card? Thanks for any comment. Second question.. I have one CA left on my report and figured it would be the most difficult to deal with so I've left it for last. I need some help from all of you that have dealt with traffic tickets before. My apologies in advance 'cause this post is a novel!.

FACTS:.

1.) 8 traffic tickets ranging from 11/99 - 6/01 (mostly parking violations) with the total amount of fines - $1433 (from the Muni Court DB).

2.) Also attached to the CA account is an NSF to a government agency from 2001 for $50..

3.) CA is asking for almost $3000 (before negotiation) to settle..

4a.) Here is how it appears on EX. I chopped off the CA info (just in case they read this post).

4b.) Here is my TC version of TU (some reason I can't get a digital TU report).

Responsibility: Individual.

Condition: Derogatory.

Original Balance: $1,022.

Balance: $1,022.

Date Opened: 06/15/2004.

Date Reported: 07/28/2008.

Remarks: Placed for collection.

4c.) Does not show on EQ report..

5.) Alleged tickets could "possibly".

Be mine..

6.) Court uses this CA for collections..

7.) I no longer live in the same state..

ACTIONS SO FAR:.

In May of this year, I contacted OC to arrange payment. I was lucky, they were having an amnesty period. I asked them to look up the tickets and I told them I would pay. They came back with one ticket for $53 and I asked them if that was the only one and they said that it was. I paid the $53 and they told me they would contact CA to mark as REMOVED. Fast forward to 11/09.

Spoke with a lady and she told me they never received notice from Muni Court that I had paid. I supplied her the ticket number and payment confirmation number and she said she would look into it..

A week or so later I received a letter from CA with all of violations and the amount owed. Nothing official looking so I called and asked her to give me more info and I received another letter a week later that had actual ticket numbers on it. Still nothing official, but I was able to look up the numbers in the Muni Court database..

This morning I called the Muni Court and explained my situation about trying to pay for the tickets during their amnesty period in May and they said they couldn't help me...I had to go through the CA. I also called the government agency to see if they had the NSF on their records and they did. After all of that, I called the CA to see if I could arrange for a PFD and they said they could not. I told her thank you and good-bye..

Which is why I'm writing. I need some advice. I'm looking for a way to deal with the possible legal issues while preserving my credit repair. I haven't had any problems with DL in my current state, but if these tickets are real, I'd rather deal with them now than have them hanging over my head. The way I see it, I have a few options:.

1.) I could pay the CA in full (don't really want to do that)..

2.) I could pay the CA for a negotiated amount..

3.) I could let them age-off in 11/10..

If I do number 2 (hehe), I could then work the CRA's to remove the entry. Is this my best approach? Are there any other options?.

Thank you so much to all that read this far..

I think what jtoast was implying was that they themselves were not familiar with traffic ticket collections, but wanted to bump the tread up for you so someone who is familiar can help...

Thank you beli. I understand what jtoast was saying. I was only using that post as a subtle way to keep this thread on the front page. Kinda like this one.....

What would you like to know about Traffic tickts? It is highly unusual for the State to use a CA, they just want you to pay the City or State... and it -Should- go up Slightly Forever, although I have seen some that remain untouched.....

I too thought it was sort of strange that the city wouldn't accept payment. You hear about all of the government budget problems so I thought sure they would accept $$..

I guess I'm just looking to tap into the collective wisdom of this forum for some advice. I've been really amazed that there are so many experts in so many different areas here...

Well, since you're not getting anywhere, I'll tell you what I personally would do. That doesn't make this the right way to handle this. My advice is worth exactly what you paid for it..

Options:.

1) Call the local DA's office and see what the potential penalty is if you just ignore it. Also ask if they know who has the authority to recall the debt from the CA so you can pay the city directly. If they won't help you, try calling back later and trying to get a more helpful ADA..

2) If this is a major city (sounds like it is) there is often a "Mayors action line" or something similar which could probably help you get the debt recalled in exchange for paying (with Discover card) it. The incentive being that in a budget crunch (and all cities are in a budget crunch right now) every little bit helps..

3) Send the city checks for each citation and see if they cash them and mark the citations paid. This is probably what I would do if options 1 and 2 got me nowhere..

Those sound like pretty good ideas jtoast. I never would have thought of that. That is precisely why I've presented my situation to CB!..

When you talk to them, make sure to mention that you previously tried to settle this during the last amnesty period but was told by the clerk you had no outstanding debts...
