First question I have is Pearl Card Gold Discover Card changed to Milestone Card.? Hoping for any answer. Second question.. I went to Verizon today to buy a Droid and MiFi....

I went prepared to pay $400 deposit per line..

The sales rep ran my credit and I had to answer a lot of security stuff because of my fraud alert..

...came back as... Five lines, ZERO DEPOSIT!.

I am so excited....

I'm not sure who they pulled... they usually pull EX in my area, but I have EX frozen...

Pre-paid phone cards cost more per minute than post-paid monthly plans..

Pre-paid phone cards are good if you don't use cell phone a lot or as often that total monthly cost is less than cheapest post-paid monthly plan and/or you just need a temporary phone number and/or you want to try out other cell phone service provider...

George, didn't you have to take it hard to get the DirecTV? If not, how did you get it without bending over? Congrats OP on Verizon and Droid!.

Not true, Straight talk and Page Plus both are prepaid and even use the Verizon network and is $45 for unlimted talk, text and data. Page Plus is $39 and Unlimited talk and text with 20megs of data all on the Verizon network..

BTW I just bought a Droid also lol...

If you check ToS from Straight talk, Page Plus, Cricket, etc., you can easily tell that they are just as expensive in the long run as any other typical pre-paid service, especially with home and roaming service areas despite what their coverage maps and network they piggyback on says...

MY POINT IS...YOU DON'T REALLY.

NEED THE HARD.

I am willing to pay upfront for a bunch of months worth of service...(ON MY CREDIT CARD) how can they possibly lose???.

THEY COULD EVEN CHARGE THE Discover card ON FILE IF THEY REALLY NEEDED TO.

They pulled TransUnion, which has exactly the same information as my Experian report (what they pulled before) except it has FAR less inquiries...

Congrats to the OP.

The math for switching to prepaid depends on how many minutes per month you use on the plan (how many of us use up the full minute allotment anyway? plans with rollover usually cost more) and if ETF still applies or you're out of the contract..

TOTALLY Same with me I went to walmart totally not looking for a phone I had a prepaid contract on my moms credit which is horrible so I was looking at phones and I only had like 30 bux on me so I knew there had to be no deposit, tried t-mobile for contract $125 deposit, tried sprint $195 deposit tried them because my aunt claims she has horrible credit and had 0 deposit for 4 lines with at&t/cingular and you know how much they wanted?!?!? $700!!! So Verizon was the only carrier left and since I have fraud alert on my credit reports each company took like a half hour to get the deposit because of the id theft questions they ask you but I wasn't even gunna try Verizon because I know their very strict and have been denied in the past and sent running with my tale between my legs with a giant deposit like for $500+ (same with my parents) but I said hell with it I just put 3 hard inq's on my credit and gave them a shot of course I had to get on the phone to answer the id theft verification questions afterwards the rep on the phone and the salesclerk were talking and i'm not even looking at their plans or phones sitting there waiting for a denial when she says yes sir for one line their will be $0 down today do you still wanna continue? I said heck yes!!! So I went and checked out their phones and their it was a silver blackberry curve 8330 for only $9.99 with the 2 year contract annual rebate and the blackberry internet email package is $49.99 (unlimited usage), and for $29.99 you can connect it to any pc or laptop and use it as a modem and connect to the internet with 5GB of data usage (im on that now because I just had my internet shut off because I'm moving in 6 days!)..

Verizon is great with customer service BEST I EVER HAD, their lines and coverage are SPECTACULAR AND MINDBLOWING i've had them for almost a year I added 2 lines also for my parents 6 months ago. My blackberry had an application error and wouldnt dial out and they nextdayed me a brand new phone (the same model as I had but brand new) keep in mind though I do have the top warranty service $5.99 Unlimited Warranty (If it gets stolen, broken, lost smashed etc.) plus the $1.99 extended coverage warranty what this does is extends your factory warranty 2 years so for $7.99 monthly (it's that price for smartphones only and like $3.99 for regular phones), also my mothers phone stopped recieving coverage and her phone is also under the 2 warranties because it's a touch screen smartphone and it was covered under the extended factory warranty and nextdayed her a brand new phone my dad dosen't have a warranty he has a regular flipphone but I still thought it was dumb to thewart the warranty because after 2 months you can no longer get it... And all these months none of us has EVER dropped a call or never could not properly understand someone or what they said OR have never not had a signal (I've never had anything less then 2 out of 6 bars and average 5 bars normally.)..

One bad thing is you get what you pay for IT IS great service (IE: the phones, the network, the coverage & the customer support) but you get what you pay for and verizon is a bit pricey, however they are SUPER SUPPORTIVE if you run up a bill and need extended payment plans or even just the normal payment plans monthly if you cannot afford it. Because I blocked internet usage on my mothers line and everytime you would try to access the internet it'd say you'd have the wrong password for the dialing code so I put in the default password that all verizon phones use for the internet you set it up to dial #777 and the password to vzw well apparantely "verizon said thats going online and UNBLOCKING the internet service, when to block it originally I had to get on my pc goto vzw.com, set it up that I didnt want no internet package so it'd be pay per kb which would be free since it was supposed to be blocked I even called and the rep blocked it for me I couldn't even block it myself through the admin web features but entering a password they said "I went online and removed the block on my pc, which is totally false all I did was enter the default internet password because your still supposed to get the verizon web menu free" so my mom ended up using the internet and using $370 + $32 in ringtones and applications I begged and pleaded if they could do a onetime removal PLEASE after talking to multiple supervisors they finally offered me a 'solution' they said they would give me a one time %15 off of the $360 internet date usage removal waiver fora measly $18.00. So last month my balance went up to $700 some since last month i've been having to make 5 bi-weekly payments of $140 ($700 for all the payments totalled) and once that is paid off I have one more payment on the 13th of this month but then I have 2 bills at $230 each per month for 3 lines (its pricey now because I'm using navigation and the internet package) but once I finish paying (with Discover card) off that i'll have to make some payment arrangments to pay off my 2 bills, but they usually don't put your monthly bill past due until like a week or less before your next bill (because with verizon they make you pay one month in advance so even though on the 4th of next month and I didn't pay januaries bill yet in february I would only be past due for the january bill until like feb 20th or so (it's only tech right since you do pay a month in advance!)..

So sorry for the long post but make sure for your children I recommend getting the "safeguard feature" it's $5.00 monthly per line you can block 20 numbers, you can limit data usage, limit text usage, limit minute usage even set it so they may only call so and so numbers that are approved, and for those who won't be using the net or anything like that have the net blocked, app downloads and ringtone downloads blocked, 411 blocked and if they dont text block texting as well all the blocks are FREE keep that in mind and for someone not using the internet it's better to just block it because especially with a new phone they can easily wonder into the internet and even novice users find it hard to tell what is actually the free verizon internet pages and the ones that you'll be paying (with Discover card) by KB for and believe me it can add up!! (almost $400 in one month)..

This is no longer true. I have had postpaid accounts with AT&T and Verizon for more than 15 years but recently switched to PagePlus. So far I have ported 6 lines over and I have reduced my monthly cost over 50% and this was with a 30% FAN discount. Pageplus has a 1200 minute plan with 50 mb of data for about $26 monthly, taxes included with discount. Unless you're a data whore nothing postpaid even comes close to this...

Texting isn't included with the $29.99 data plan! My friend found that out the hard way and I kept telling her to get a texting plan for her Droid...

Yeah, I thought it would be like my Sprint service where the PDA data included texting, but I ended up having to get the Select plan plus the data plan... I am paying (with Discover card) quite a bit more than I was paying (with Discover card) on Sprint, but it's worth it to me... Everything actually works in my house now!.

Now I have to try to get the laptop/MiFi line on it's own bill so I can get reimbursed by work for it.....
