I just seen this on the news..

I am far from being an expert but this might be a good time to dispute if "Mann Bracken" is on your credit reports...

Ye, however you might want to make sure and wait for someone else here to confirm my answer as I am not completely sure. Better yet, why don't you give a call to the Discover Card guys because they can give you an answer better...

Guess this is what happens when you skirt the law, and get fined....

I hate NCO .... I herd even NCO has a lawsuit against them as some of their agents used caller id spoofing in attempts to collect debt..

At least Nco is easy to get off your reports (If it is true they will be buying their accounts), and they don't sue. (Not that I've seen anyway)..

Crap!.

I was stupid enough to get sued by (and settle with) the former Wolpoff-Abramson (kinda sorta now Mann Bracken) and after two years of monthly payments, I just sent my LAST payment yesterday and then came across the news that they are out of business. I just now sent a fax to them (240-386-3111) requesting an updated payment history and it did not go through. I've faxed them before, so I know this number at least used to work..

My question is, what do I do now? If my latest check is cashed (I sent it CM), then I should be good, since I CM'd ALL my payments and have photocopies of the cleared checks but if it isn't cashed....then what?.

Do I contact the original creditor (since I wasn't sued by a CA)?.

In any case, I'll keep you guys posted on what happens. Damn. Just when I was about to get the monkey off my back once and for all.......

If it were me, i'd promptly call the OC... do you know if it was sold to them or just assigned? I thought they usually buy the debts from the Oc... I could be wrong tho..

This would be a good time to dispute the item off your credit report if it's reporting...

It was assigned, not sold. I know, unusual, right?.

Discover was the original creditor, and they've been reporting on my CR. The latest balance on my CR is more or less equal to the amount I owed to Mann-Bracken when I pulled my latest CR. Since it seems like they're at least aware of my payments, calling them is a good idea..

Thanks!..
