Quick question... If I belong to Commerce Bank can I get a Discover Card offered by Chase? Thanks in advance for any comment. Another question... First, Id like to say this place is a huge resource and I have been a member here for a good long while (2005)Long store short, I had to file BK and it was discharged in September of 09. My scores were in the 400's pre-discharge and have settled at 556/559/& 553(EXPERIAN) respectively. I have pulled both my FICO reports and I noticed that one wasn't reporting all the accounts IIB so I have sent out a dispute for that.

I went ahead and got a Discover card with First Premier with a 700 dollar limit. It appears that it hasn't hit the CRA's yet, but it's not been 30 days yet either.

I have also joined a local CU and I am going to attempt to take out a secured Discover card with at least a 2500 dollar limit. My goal is to keep my utilization below 10% which shouldn't be too difficult baring anything catastrophic from happening. I tend to pay cash for things anyway and none of the cards have any "rewards" for using them so i'll just charge gas and the occasional dinner or something on them..

According to MYFICO, the only "bad" thing affecting my credit score are late payments. I had a few payments late prior to filing the BK because my attorney advised me to stop paying (with Discover card) everything, so I did. I do not have any charge-off's or judgements, or liens..

Is there any other advise you guys can offer to aid in my rebuilding of my credit? I would like to see my scores solidly in the 600's come December of 2010. If I have left out any info please feel free to ask..

Thanks again for the wealth of knowledge here!.

Radi8, thanks for the reply! The lates are valid and can't be removed, I have tried. I think that I may very well take your advise on dumping the FP card as soon as I get my secured card. I PIF this coming friday and hopefully I can apply for the secured card on the same day. I have contacted all of the local CU's know to me and the only one that offers a secured Discover card is 65 miles away! Others do offer secured loans, but not the credit card. With my BK, I fear that WF and CITI secured cards are out of the question for me so I have my focus set on US Bank as a secured option. Hopefully they don't LOL @ my app due to the recent BK...

Thanks for the reply Cocomad! I had 3 capital One cards that were IIB. Im aware of BOA as well, not sure why I overlooked them. My primary issue is that I need secured cards that would allow me to increase the balance/limits at a later date. I haven't been able to confirm if BOA offers this or not. I should follow up with them and discuss it...

Nearly all major issuers offer a secured product. A number of regional banks do as well. I have one by national city/PNC..

My suggestion would be simple: Yes, get 2 cards. One from a major issuer (Citi, Chase, BoA, etc), and one from a local Credit Union. Both of these will be important relationships in your future life as a man with good credit..

FP is most certainly not. Stay away. You can do better...

I called up BOA and it appears that they do allow you to increase the balance with additional deposits. I will keep them on the short list for sure! Thanks for the reply!..
