Quick question: How much can I overdraw my ANZ Low Rate Discover Card? Hoping for any answer or 2. Another question on my mind: I realize 90% of the people that post here recommend never closing a positive account.. |

Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I bump into an answer. You should email the people at Discover Card as they probably could give you an answer..

I won't say anything besides what is in bold. A 691 FICO is not top tier. It is not terrible but not top tier..
But congrats on doing what you feel is right... |
|
I realize a 691 isnt top tier, I never intended to give the impression that.
I was seeking a $30K line, but $200?!?!?!?!. When every other creditor has granted me at a minimum twice that. And in some cases much more. Keep in mind, these are real creditors,. Not store card crap. Genuine banks. Hell my credit union is one of the most. Conservative I've ever dealt with and I have a $1000 limit on my unsecured CC.. I didnt post this to get agreements. I posted this to relate my experience with Macys.. I realize most wouldnt have closed the acct. and power to each and every one of them.. Personally, I was tired of be treated like I had a 480 FICO.. Macy's is a great card to have on your reports and easy to work with. No matter what you start off with as far as limits just take it, use it and pay it off when due. You will get cli's on the schedule they have if you use it and your reports have not soured since the last time they looked at your reports..
I opened my account on line in late June 09 and have had one large cli and the card was upgraded to the highest store level due to spending. They are very cautious about identity questions when you open account on line and I would never open on line again only in store and here is why. My kids shop there a lot sales coupons just keep coming when you have the card and prices are really cheap with the discounts you get. However the Au's on my account I have to go in store with them to show identity when card becomes activated. I was told on the telephone in store (you talk to a rep when at a register) that because I opened the card on line it is to assure identity is correct. It took me 30 minutes in store to have this lifted from account so I can add AU's without having to go in store to activate card. If you have no store near you just some day when you are traveling and know your reports are OK open in store just a lot easier down the road.. They have been very good any time I had a problem and took care of it right away and when having 3 kids shopping same day and a 2500 limit knowing limit was being approached I called and told the rep this. ( when you open your account on line you have a diff. telephone number to call) they let card go over limit and did not report it as such then I paid it to below limit in a few days. They have done all things I have requested but do remember they got burnt with a lot of bad accounts over the last few years so just get the account and let it grow... |

Honestly glad to hear you had a great experience with Macys Lobster..
Its nice to hear that they will work with some people, apparently, just not me..lol.. |
|
+1.
I would've dropped the puffed up ego (string of baddies. Does not equal. Their problem) and waited a couple months for a GLI or even just called back.. |
|
Excellent.. I hope that works out for you.. Personally, I'd rather give my business.
To the bank cards that. 1: have rewards. 2: actually CLI at some point. 3: dont treat me like a leper with a 691 score.. I can see where this is going, so I'll stop posting now.. Its not an egotistical rant to think I deserve more than $200 credit when every. Other creditor I've dealt with has granted more than that,. With the same baddies. On my account, mainly due to them being old.. I guess Macys is the new Amex/Discover.. For the record, 4 are PAID and 3 years old now (Student loans), 2 are medical from 4 years ago. And are dropping shortly thanks to WHYCHAT and the last 2 are PAID COs from 6.5 years ago.. Please dont imply I have a string of garbage in the last 3 years because thats not the case here... |
|
The baddies are there, they are working against you and you don't think they should be, I get it..
In any case wish you continued success and GL in your credit endeavors, only you can know if you made the right decision for you... |
|
You're not the only one getting poor service from Macy's..
This guy has a FICO score over 710 and three years perfect payment history and you can read to see what Macy's did to him/her:. Http://creditboards....howtopic=421451. You can find most of Macy's stuff at TJMAXX or Marshalls for less than the Macy's sale price... |
|
I understand my negatives working against me, but please correlate for me,.
$15K in tradelines, with the same exact derogs, and Macys being scared to. Raise my limit past $200 after 12 months of perfect payment history with them. And 17 months of perfect credit w/ my most recent derog 3+ years old and PAID.. This post has been edited by. Sonicanatidae. : 04 January 2010 - 11:28 AM.. |

Always try and negotiate with them without being hostile, stay friendly and if they still do not give you what you think is reasonable try and find out why then call back in 3 months after spending a few dollars and paying (with Discover card) it off...
|
|
Why on earth would I want to spend money with these clowns?.
I would MUCH rather spend it on companies that are actually interested. In building a relationship, rather than treating good customers like lepers.. Thats my choice tho, to each their own... For the record, I was actually quite friendly, even after the drone read off the B.S.. Of waiting 6 more months before even asking for a GLI because Macys was gracious. Enough to reinstate my $200 limit, I should shut up and be thankful I'm guessing.. Bah.. good riddance.. This post has been edited by. Sonicanatidae. : 04 January 2010 - 11:34 AM.. |

Re-apply in a year, and see what they offer. Some people have had success re-applying once the old account is completely closed. Sometimes you are stuck in the re-builder rut, and need to get a completely new account...
|
|
By then I'll be in the 750s, so why would I waste my time with the $300 limit they'll grant me...lol..
|
|
Can someone explain why it's a big deal sonicanatidae is closing a pithy Macy's account when he has $15k in other trade lines? Geeesh..
Sonicanatidae, congrats on improving your credit and credit limits... |

Its the standard around CBs of never closing accounts. Just throw them in a drawer.
And let them gain age.. I agree with that 99% of the time.. I was just done dealing with Macy's foolishness.. No worries.. it will impact me slightly, but it's worth the hit to not have. To deal with the stupidity I've dealt with in my experience with Macys.. A lot of others here have had great experiences with Macys. Thats another. Reason they are suggesting it not be closed.. What they seem to be missing is Macys was likely a great rebuilder LAST YEAR.. In 2009, "they tightened their lending standards" and that means with a 691 FICO. And 1 year of perfect history with them, they dont trust me with more than $200.. lol. When Macys starts nuking their accounts, I believe the music will change. Its their. Call, just like it was mine in this case... |

I believe that Citi does the actual underwriting of the cards. While it MIGHT be an arms-length relationship like with HSBC and Neiman Marcus, there are elements of risk that are considered now that were not a factor two years ago..
I am curious what happened that caused the comment about the account being re-opened in November. Was there an irrational response to the CLD to close the account? If so, then the re-opening placed you (from a technical standpoint) in the same general pool as those who had just opened an account... |
|
Same here. No baddies, and was 705 EX FICO last time I applied (obviously, that was back when you could still get your EX FICO)..
Wasted a total of 2 inquiries on them over the years, and I'll never try again. Other businesses have been MUCH better to me... |
|
In may/09 they CLIed me to $200..
In Oct/09 I pulled CCT and saw the limit was lowered to $100.. I called and was told that despite my credit scores improving over 100. Points since application, despite losing half my derogs and paying (with Discover card) off the remainder,. That Macys had tightened their credit standards resulting me getting the middle finger.. I then EECBed the C's and got a call back from Exec customer Service.. I faxed her a copy of my most recent report and asked why if my scores. Have only improved was I CLDed.. I was quoted the standard B.S. about lending standards, but the account. Was re-instated @ $200 in Nov/09.. Jan/2010 the account is 12 months old. I called to get some GLI luvin and. Was told that since my original limit of $200 was restored, that counted. As my GLI and I could basically rot in hell for another 6 months before. Macy's declined my next GLI/CLI request.. I immediately asked to close the account, stated it MUST say closed by consumer. And after getting my CSR's full name, I insisted they send me a letter stating. That it was closed at my request.. I realize lenders dont care why it was closed, but it mattered to me, so I asked.. If Citi underwrites the cards, then they can def. burn in hell. I've had a Citi Autoloan. For 13 months now, perfect history.. bah. This post has been edited by. Sonicanatidae. : 04 January 2010 - 02:49 PM.. |

Yes.. Apparently $100 killed them.. They CLDed me in Oct/09.
From $200 down to $100 for the crimes of an improving credit. Report and paying (with Discover card) them ontime, every time, for 10 months at that point.. Again, I wasnt expecting or asking for a major CLI. A couple hundred. Bucks would have bought me off, but they had something different in mind.. No worries.. thanks to CB I'm in a position to close this garbage, so I did.... |
