I would like to know the answer too. Anyone here know what is the answer to that question. I'll do some investigation and get back to you if I find an answer. You should email the people at Lending Tree as they probably know..

Charge off is an accounting term..

They are bad news for your Lending Tree credit score and credit rating..

Paying off a debt has nothing to do with charge offs...

Thanks lbrown59..

I did some digging and found a basic definition on what a "charge off" is, basically, mostly for more newbies like me..

From 'Charge offs' hurt credit rating,' Chicago Sun Times, October 7, 2002.

BY TERRY SAVAGE.

A "charge-off" occurs when a merchant declares your account "uncollectable" and hands it over to a collection agency, which tries to get you to pay at least a portion of the balance due. The collection agency pays the merchant for the accounts, and tries to get you to pay them more than they paid for your uncollected balance. But when you pay the collection agency, they don't report it back to the credit bureau as a partly-paid account. It just shows up as a "charge-off" or total loss to the merchant which naturally looks terrible on your credit report...

A FOAD letter is a job rejection letter. I *think* I know what the acronym means, but the 'f' is not a very friendly word. the rest is "off and die". you put it together!..

Pay For Deletion... it is when you tell the CA you will pay in full or a % in exchange for them deleting the item from your credit report. Make sure you have this agreement in writing before you actually send payment. There is an example of a PFD letter in the sample letters forum..

I'm a newbe. What are the references to the guys above about (Mr. Cooke and Miller) of Cap 1? Are they really good guys - like the one you would want to talk to if you called Cap 1, or is this some sort of joke?..
