My 1st question is: For Realtors: What do you like/dislike about Lending Tree mortgage brokers? Thanks in advance for any answer or 2. Another quick question... I posted earlier about my recent troubles with the AMEX security dept. In a nutshell, I get into a position where I feel comfortable applying for an AMEX card and get it! Then decide that I'll go ahead and see about upgrading to gold. That's because someone here said the green could be a BDD into a gold. Well it worked.

Well a security rep called me at lunch regarding the stuff I sent in this morning. He went over the details of what I sent in and asked for the phone number of one of the utility companies since he didn't see it on the bill. I was going to give him the 800 number but then he stopped mehe wanted the.

*regular*.

Phone number! huh? Wouldn't it be easier and better for them (AMEX) to call the toll-free number? No, he tells me, they have to use the regular phone numbers whenever possible since they "are easier for us to trace." WTF?!?!?!.

He also asked that I send in another copy of that utility bill only this time I need to include.

MY.

Account number for the utility instead of blotting it out!!! (Someone here said a CRA demanded a copy of a phone bill for proof of address so he blotted out everything except his name and address and the name/address of the phone companythat's what I did!) No dice, the AMEX guy wanted my info so he could call and verify. Mind you, he did.

Allow.

Me the courtesy of blotting out the amount due etc..

Next, he reminded me that I have some more documents to send in like a W-2, paystub, SS card (or a "numident" sp? printout from the ss admin) as well as ANOTHER copy of my ID but it needs to be lighter since my pic came out like a "dark blob" nor could he read the personal data on my ID, too dark. "But there's no hurry" for me to send them in, I've got another week or so....

So now I'm really mad and want to know what the hell is going on and why am I being treated like an anthrax letter?!?!? I tell him that my conspiracy theory-prone colleague was talking about the latest rash of ID theft and referred me to this.

So I asked the AMEX rep if my account had been compromised? Silence... "Well," I ask him, "has my information been compromised? Or does this have anything to do with that New York ID theft ring that was in the news last week?".

Dead silence!.

So I tell him that I'm getting really hacked off with this whole routine and I'm not about to send them anything else. Then he relents a little and says that it's ultimately my decision on whether to release my personal information to them. He then gives me the phone numbers and web sites for the FTC and Social Security Admin fraud/id theft units! Well I can read the writing on the wall! I was going to CHOD one minor thing but it looks like I have bigger fish to fry!!!..

A 'security rep' CALLED YOU ?? I give NOTHING to anybody that calls ME. If YOU didn't initiate the call, you have no idea who's on the other end of the line...

No no no no no,,,,,,,I've talked to her before. I initially found out about all this last week when I called the regular AMEX customer service number and was transferred to the security dept. She was calling to follow up on our earlier conversation...

I kind of think, given the fact that we know AmEx's security was breached, that I would comply with the ID verification requests, and ask them to change the account number or give you a password. It sounds to me like they are taking appropriate security steps, if your account was accessed by one of these individuals that they already know was selling account information. They won't answer your questions about whether your account was compromised because they don't want to get sued..

INO, there are better ways to go about what they are doing, but then, they don't know for sure whether you are the real you, or someone impersonating you...
