First of all Does the vannila Discover Card work on eBay? Thanks for any comment. 2nd question I got is.. So, I applied for a bunch of stuff, declined for everything except 1 CLI from NFCU. I've had a Delta Community CU savings account for a while. Last year I wanted to open a checking, but they wanted a hard EQ pull and that wasn't going to happen because I was on security freeze and I didn't really need another account. Anyways, yesterday before my flight flying out of Atlanta, I had a couple hours to waste and nothing to do, so I went to what I find out later is their main office. |
The answer is Yes, but... you might want to make sure and wait for someone else to confirm it as I am unsure of myself. Better yet, why don't you email the Discover Card guys because they can help better...
BTW.. I did hint while opening my checking account that I'm with NFCU, and that I'm considering leaving NFCU but can't because all my credit lines, auto loans, and everything else is with them. I have a fraud alert, so even though I was sitting there with ID, he did make me verify a couple accounts on my credit report in respects to monthly payments and such to verify it was me, so he did see all my NFCU lines. Maybe that had something to do with it, no idea...
I'm leaving this thread alone, Radio always gets stuff going around here...
Actually, I can't believe I read the whole thing..
My eyes usually glaze over after about 5 sentences... |
Wow Congrats!.
And yes the Discover credit card products look fantastic, the ugly check card not so much.. |
Wish they would give me Skymiles points if they're gonna put a stupid Delta plane on my check card...
Yeah for real, I did talk to them though through the online banking messaging and supposedly they will be changing it to look like the credit products in January and said to check back the first of the year about it.
So for guys like me that will probably never get a Discover credit card product from them at least I can have a pretty check card lol. This post has been edited by. Demonx. : 10 December 2009 - 12:40 PM.. |

Congrats that's quite the line considering your little-to-no history with them..
Now cool it on the apps for at least 6 months!.. |
Holy sh*t! I had to read that over because the limit looked to high to be true, congrats!.
Now for some bumpage.. |
No need, Radio has magic flowers for dealing with his CRAs..
He'll be up and "blooming" again... |
Let's just say that rdg doesn't live his credit, or other, lives in the slow lane...
Oh wow, that's quite the approval. I would've probably passed out right at the desk. congrats!..
Why so many denials with over a 700 FICO? I'm kind of shocked about that..
Wow. Delta CU is in my town (ATL). Will have to hit them up eventually!.. |
That's what I was wondering. Pre-app spree, my FICO was in the 740's with only a couple inquiries in 2 years time. It was decline after decline and the first few were too many new accounts in 24 months because all accounts are over a year old, then it was too many inquiries...
A low 700 Fico is nothing to brag about these days. It's a B credit rating at best..
Congrats RDG....but lay off the apps for awhile now... |
Ok, I'll play the idiot... the status display showed a $0 balance, a $50k limit,.
But a $300 payment due on 1/7?.. |
I dunno either. I'm new to their system. It also seems to have a fixed minimum payment due. I think that never changes for minimum due. So, if you owe less than the required $300, my assumption is they expect you to PIF?.
Anyone else have one of these cards care to comment? I literally just got it yesterday... |
Good Lord!! Congrats!!!.
50k right out of the box from DCCU. This post has been edited by. Savetherobots. : 10 December 2009 - 06:42 PM.. |

Congrats on the approval..
Im not understanding how you were actually denied 20 times with a score in the 700's.. What were you applying for?.. |
That is some serious credit with all of those recent inquiries, well played sir!..
I applied for:.

Could the $300 be an AF?.
Serious congrats on your approval! That's amazing... |
Nope, no AF. 9.8% APR.
I'm thinking that it just says that until my first billing cycle goes through (1/7/2010) because it would otherwise have a balance amount for just AF. Just got it yesterday, haven't even used it yet... |
Congrats that is quite a limit. Delta just approved me last week for a $1k card, with 11 inqs. They are very nice, and don't seem to be afraid of inqs...
WOW!!!!.
I think I read that you have an awesome income, too.... Congrats!!!!.. |
Ok, called CSR. This is the deal. Its kinda confusing but, what it is, is kinda like a "warning" that IF I use my entire CL, that is what my minimum payments will be where it says "standard payment." The are telling that my minimum payment will be $300 if I max out my card. Seems kinda low for a minimum payment, but whatever. Since I haven't even used it yet, their back end is defaulting most of my information. My first statement cycle ends on 1/7/2010.
Otherwise, all information on there until 1/7 should be ignored and will change other than standard payment. She said that a lot of people sometimes call in wondering what the minimum payment will be if they use their full CL and that's why they tell you what the standard payment will be. Makes no sense what so ever. On a different note, found out the card has a bunch of perks. First, it's a 9.8% card that is NOT variable interest. Third, 2,0000 rewards points at activation, another 1,000 on first purchase. Then, they are running a holiday "double points on all purchases" special that ends Feb 1. And she mentioned something about car rental insurance and not to get it from the agency if I'm using my card.. This may actually be one up on the PenFed AMEX. This card right now is the best card I have. Even better than NFCU which I have had a lot longer... |
I told the guy opening my checking that the reason I applied so much is because I need to get away from NFCU being my sole source for everything. I also told him that a $1K Chase Freedom card is worthless, so even if they give it to me, I'll send it back. Then I told him how all were declined because of too many inquiries. If your local, I HIGHLY recommend going to the main office by the airport. Seriously, in the past, I had a hard time even opening a checking with them. That's why I let $25.00 or so rot in a savings account for almost 2 years.
Then it really spooked me out when they printed my actual card on site and I walked out with it. lol.. |
Duh.. per their website:.
All Delta Community CU Branches (with the exception of the General Offices branch in the Atlanta Delta Complex) can produce instant issue Visa Credit, Visa Check and ATM cards. All Branches can reset your PIN or set up a new PIN for your existing card.. Too bad a lot more banks don't do this. I watched this show called "how it's made" about credit cards. It takes 4 days for AMEX to "build" your card from application acceptance. They are made in Indonesia and Canada for AMEX. lol.. |
My WAMU branch made my debit card onsite. This was a couple years ago. I like your transaction better...
Lol... I'm dumb I guess. Watching that show on TV how they made credit cards, made me ignorant to Discover card technology advances. Scary part is I'm an engineer. lol..
I think that's how it is for everyone... I'm an IT/"software engineer" guy, but I hate many automated technologies...
Yep, I work with software and I hate automation, but it is the future..
Congrats OP! I might take a drive to the airport soon; it's only 30 minutes drive for me... |
That doesn't make sense that the minimum would be $300 on a 50k balance. That's only 6/10 of 1%. If their minimum is 2%, you're looking at 1,000. Do you have the card disclosure handy? I'd want more clarification...
I have no clue myself. Keep in mind, I got it yesterday. The only thing I have right now is the actual card. I'll update when everything else comes in the mail in a couple days. They're local so it can't take that long to show up...
Gratz!.
But I thought delta pulled EX???. Did I miss something?.. |
Wow... delta denied me with a mid 700s score earlier this year for asking for 10k Discover card too soon after joining. UW said it looks bad. I guess that was BS..
Funny thing is just about every other Discover credit card app has been approved for me this year. So I'll take my results. Congrats, though, radio... |
I've had my savings account for 2 years about.... but didn't have any activity. Same like $25.00 I originally opened account with. lol..
OP said he had a savings account with them already... wonder how long it was open? It.
Was. Only $30, though, so who knows?.. |
Ah ok. 2 years. I think they closed mine after 6 months. Too lazy to take the money out..
But encouraging that even leaving 30 bucks in an account for a couple years is good enough for them. I guess thats the security they need to feel comfortable lending. My account is 6 months old...6 months down and 18 to go.... This post has been edited by. TheChosenOne. : 10 December 2009 - 11:54 PM.. |

To approve my app they needed copies of pay stubs. No problem other than that. I did a cold app like 2 days after joining...
Good for you radio, the way you write the story is also great for a laugh. Radio you must have a good income too to get that done..

Radiodesignguy Im not sure what you mean by that... Wouldnt more than 12 months be GOOD for that?..
I got back several "too many new accounts" denials on my applications. All my accounts are at least 12 months old. Most are creeping up on the 24 month mark. My most recent account (newest) is 15 months old. That's what didn't make sense. Citi gave me denial on my Forward Card application stating too many new accounts...
That is totally awesome!!! CONGRATS!!! Hope your flight out of ATL went just as smooth!..
Seems like you do not need to live there to join. Just need to join the Getting Ahead Association...
I joined, and I live in CT. They do online deposits, which is a major plus...
I'm also joining gettingahead..
I need one more high limit card.. I'm going to wait until Feb to join / apply... |
Man, I was thinking about moving to Atlanta. Seeing the "Real Housewives" show made me change my mind..
Congrats radiodesignguy... |
I guess I will follow Johnny and join also, see what happens. might be worth a try.

Can't till tomorrow when I got to work. Both camera and scanner are there. Will post though. Imagine a picture of the mountains/sky with a Delta 747 on it. lol..
I don't want to take the hard to join. I might fly out to ATL..
Has anyone opened an account inside the branch with a frozen eq?.. |
You're looking for savings only? Likely they will require a hard for any type of checking(and definitely for credit) regardless of whether you show up in person..
Is traveling out there in person worth avoiding the hard?.. |
I have this card. The initial $300 minimum payment is meaningless. Its there until the first statement cuts and is replaced with a real amount. My initial limit was $10K and it said $300 too..
This card also offers primary car rental insurance (up to $25K). 1% foreign exchange fee. It is 9.8% fixed now, but given the CARD legislation, I expect to to go variable any day now.. Https://www.deltacommunitycu.com/personal/l...center/visa.asp. They are a great Credit Union too. Congrats RDG. This post has been edited by. Kevinkev99. : 13 December 2009 - 10:05 PM.. |

They will require a hard pull just to become a member. Frozen EQ = no membership. They won't pull anything but EQ either, no exceptions. Been down that route...
They do use CU service centers so when you do become a member, you can do your banking anywhere in the country at a service center...
I want this card someday!.
The PRIMARY car rental insurance is a great benefit if you travel and rent cars a lot. I'm not aware of any other US Discover card that currently offers this, other than Citi Diner's Club MC which has a hefty AF and I believe it's a corporate card only these days.. All Visa credit cards and Gold/Platinum MasterCards offer secondary rental insurance, but that only pays up to the deductible (usually $500) on your own personal auto insurance policy if you crash a rental car and your own policy covers collision/comprehensive. If you don't own a car, or have an old clunker with liability only, the "secondary" Discover credit card insurance covers damage to the rental car up to $50K if you crash a rental. But the Delta CU card with primary collision insurance will pay up to $50K toward repair of a crashed rental car, even if you have collision coverage on your own vehicle, leaving your own insurance alone and (hopefully) keep your premiums down.. How do I know this? I've had a few fender benders in rental cars before, and learned the hard way.. Even during my subprime days, I used a secured Visa from my CU with a $200 limit to pay for rental cars, NEVER a debit card (debit cards carry no rental car collision insurance...neither does Hooters as it's not a platinum or gold MC!). As others mentioned, Delta CU pulls an EQ hard inq for joining, and they also pull ChexSystems when you join. I only joined with a share account, and both were pulled back in Sept. Of course, the EQ inq is gone, thanks to B*. No reason to worry about a hard inq on EQ, when it's so easily removed in a month or two..
I joined during my CU joining spree this fall, just to get in. I have not applied for any credit products, but probably will later in 2010. Seems like a nice CU... |
I don't wait to apply for credit products when joining a CU. Seems like the pimp thing to do..
Truly awesome Radio!!!! I live in Atlanta and EQ is almost always the CRA used here..
Link to how credit unions rate. (I didn't find Delta Community CU but you may), but mostly all mentioned here at CB are on the list.. Http://www.bankrate.com/rates/safe-sound/b...=&s=&z=. (If I didn't paste the link right, copy and past in your address line.).. |
Ordinarily I do the same. But there appeared to be a lot of people joining CUs back then to get away from the banks, so I got nervous and joined a bunch I wanted to have relationships with before they (possibly) altered the membership eligibility requirements (like whacking Financial Fitness Assoc, PTA, etc...). Yes, I got a bit paranoid. I think my paranoia transferred to BW, too...
Yep, I understand. I was so paranoid that I only applied for new credit from one institution this whole year - Alliant..
Now that is. Bad.. |
You and Bob are bad influence on me. I already belong to four, But like yourself I plan to join some more for the same reasons you stated...
Exactly. This is one time where a little paranoia and forethought may work in our favor in the long term...
I belong to Penfed, Navy, patelco, NASA, Addison, Agriculture, and Alliant. I'm pondering joining another..
I don't know if their loan/credit card products are any good, but here are two local credit unions that anyone can join:.
Northwest Federal Credit Union. Apple Federal Credit Union.. |
You and Joe are the true CUWs who set the standard on CU credit lines. I'm just trying to catch up a bit...
You'll get there. At the time I started joining these (in '06) I was thinking I was a bit crazy (hey we had a lot of fun sharing the experience on CB). But now, in this economy etc, I see it was a wise move.....
Wow is all I can say. I think I need to use the "Thinking of leaving XXXXX" line in the future. Maybe I'll get a nice frosty 50,000 card..
I have plently of FF miles....
2.5 hour flight to save a hard =. For me. Can I have them pull for savings and use same for cc?.. |
They will hard you for the checking account no question..
I went into the same branch and said I want a checking account (I have had a savings for over a year with them) and a credit card. They tell me they will pull my credit for checking and then use the same one for the credit card.. The agent puts the stuff in the computer and has to wait for my report to "slide" over...whatever that means. While he is waiting he looks at my last report they pulled when I opened my savings and they don't just see numbers or scores or grades or letters the rep actually see's your full report...he asked me about couple specific things...all of which I explained should not be on the new report. Sure enough...everything negative is gone, except 1...wouldn't you know it...tells me exactly which one is still showing up...approves the checking denies the card "until I get that last item removed". According to the rep, they will not issue a Discover card if you any baddies, and usually the checking is denied as well, but this baddie was only $75 and clearly showed I disputed it on the report so they went ahead with checking but no on credit card, until baddie is removed... |
