YES IT DID!!!!!!!! I work in the oilfield industry and there is absolutley NO REASON for the prices today, there is enough oil in reserves at the refineries that they can't hold anymore therefore cannot produce anymore..

We are actually sending our reserves OVER SEAS!!!!!!!!!!!..

Yes, oil prices went up as well.

And we're probably looking at more increases in 2010.

Rising gas prices is a reasonable price to pay for a recovery, at least the investments have done better.

Remember when back in mid-2008 oil hit 140s and there was fearmongering that it would end the year at 200?.

By comparison oil/gas is still cheap now..

I no longer see the correlation..

A couple years ago grocery prices went way up because of increased transportation costs, among other things related. These costs eventually went back down, yet my grocery prices stayed up. Just one example..

I believe that "supply-and-demand" is less relevant than it used to be, and that our economy is now more simply "demand"-based. I've become jaded and skeptical, I guess...

"IF".

Their next load of gas will actually cost $0.21/gallon more than their last load of gas..

Yep, now that the public is desensitized, why ruin a good profit margin?.

Prices here range from $2.33 to $2.59..

Yeah, the $0.42 you saved will pay for a cup of coffee and the rewards might get you and extra sugar packet...

I didn't notice much of an uptick lately. But, I don't think the price of gas has gone down as much in my neighborhood when I've heard everyone else in other cities were celebrating the plummet...

How much is the difference in rewards the $0.21 a gallon made? $0.21 on 20 gallons. I doubt his Kia hoolds 20 gallons..

I was speaking about who glad he was that he filled up at the lower price. I know that $0.21 is $4.20 on a $20 gallon fill, it's just that in the grand scheme of things I can't see making a whole post about it in the credit forum and using it as a reason to tell us how you'd pay for it..

I used to worry about a $0.21 increase and think it was news when I owned 5 over the road trucks and used 3500 gallons of fuel a week, but since gas is down from $4 a gallon I don't get too excited about a little jump..

Thats actually a part of the reason gas prices go up..

More rewards to Discover credit card users = More Discover card fees to businesses = more expensive products to consumers..

Hmm.....

So by your own admission a merchant builds in the cost of doing business into price.. So it's wrong to think they build in the cost of your rewards? Oh wait, this is Georgeworld, it's a different reality...

These recent gas spikes have nothing to do with rewards cards. Merchant fee recovery is a whole other area. And, since this topic really isn't about those and we're headed into the wrong direction here, I think it's done...
