Yes sir! but you might want to make sure and wait for someone else here to confirm it as I am not completely sure. Better yet, why don't you give a call to the Discover Card guys because they can give you help better...

Never seen anybody use one....
Didn't even know they had it at. BEST BUY. I guess it has been a few years since I have been in a. BEST BUY STORE. This post has been edited by. GEORGE. : 06 January 2010 - 05:37 PM.. |

If any of my cards had the contact-less feature, I would request to be issued a normal card, or cut the card up. I never liked that feature, someone could stand in the corner of the store with a radar gun and rip you off as you walk by...

Perhaps someone could get the rfid data but consumer liability is limited...

Huhhhh???.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is this contactless feature?.
I'm guessing something I already know about, just under a different name... |
|
In the EU it is the technology used for Pin-N-Chip (not fish n' chips LOL )..

A little off-topic..
I haven't been in Best Buy for years.. In fact, I had to go back to 2007 to find my Reward Zone Membership number when I was considering BB for a washer/dryer.. Resurrected my membership number in December.. Here are some 10% discount coupons for Reward Zone members:. Http://image.emailinfo2.bestbuy.com/lib/fe...oupons_Core.pdf.. |

Ah, yes, pin-n-chip. Yes, I do know it under that name. Thanks..
Although... fish n chips does sounds kinda good right now. Something different. Change of pace. I don't think I've had that in years... |

I never liked that feature, someone could stand in the corner of the store with a radar gun and rip you off as you walk by.. I believe you're a bit confused as to what a radar gun does.. Anyways I like the no-contact paying. I've been using it all week for taxis in NYC and at a few other places that accept it.. No i'm not worried about radar guns zapping my info.. RFID chips aren't going away, embrace it.. This post has been edited by. Mike SIU. : 06 January 2010 - 05:59 PM.. |

Chip and PIN is not the same as contactless..
Chip and PIN cards have a chip with encryption features that make it almost impossible to make a copy of the chip. It seems that no criminal has ever succeeded. As part of the purchase process, the cardholder has to key in a secret PIN number. The PIN number cannot be deduced from reading the card. So a stolen card or even a copied card is absolutely useless without knowing the PIN.. In the USA the contactless cards have a simple radio transponder similar to a toll-gate pass used in a car. Due to the use of a different frequency and a small antenna, the card system can only be read from very close range, on the order of inches though. It provides information similar to what is on the magnetic stripe, but not the same information. There is little or no encryption so if someone did read the card they can make a duplicate; the same as "skimming" fraud with the magnetic strips. The RF "card number" is different so if someone did read the contactless chip they could not make a complete copy of the card including magnetic strip, only the contactless chip.. I don't know what you would call a long range rfid reader, so for me, it is a radar gun. I have the same exact thing on my exxon/mobil card, and it is indeed a slight time saver(speed pass). I just would not want the feature on a card that I used often/carry around with me. I know users are protected from unauthorized use, but it just seems like there is a lot of room for abuse...

"IF" CONTACTLESS.
Worked for a very long distance (many feet)...the guy behind you might pay for your sale by just being too close to you in the line. I can't see that happening.... This post has been edited by. GEORGE. : 06 January 2010 - 06:14 PM.. |

Reading the article, it seems to affect only contactless VISA.
Debit. Cards. I didn't know that there were any, maybe this is planning for the future... |
|
Who is to say thieves couldn't make a signal enhancer/repeater?..
|
|
I only have 1 card with contactless paying (with Discover card) (American Express).
What I like best about it is that I don't even have to take the card out of the wallet. I just take my wallet out of my pocket and tap it against the pay terminal and DONE.. |
|
Some of the same technology is involved. but you are correct that these are important differences...

Discover Card equivalent is called.
PayPass. , I believe.. I haven't used VS/MC contactless pay features on cards where those were available. I am not too thrilled about the idea but I haven't been bothered enough to punch holes through the RFID portion of the card (?).. PS Indeed it is not the same as chip and pin... |
|
I never used to use contactless Payment when I paid with my credit card. I'm going to use it..
Ron... |

Yep. I love it. Not enough places take it. Using it at CVS, haven't had to sign for anything yet (even above $25)..

Why would you want to do that? Paypass and Paywave are great features. My local grocery stores don't require a signature for anything under $50, it's just a quick tap on the pad and I'm gone. Over $50 and I sign. Either way, my card never leaves my hand. A fast food/coffee shop drive thru I think is up to $25 without a signature, which is really handy since they have the gizmo attached to the outside of the window and most certainly speeds up the process..
Would you rather hand over your card to the minimum wage cashier who was just hired yesterday? Yeah, let him/her get a good look at it. It's okay. Flip it over, pretend like you're looking at the signature, and have a look at that 3 digit security code. Not a problem. You look trustworthy.. *sigh*. It's funny that no matter what it is and how much more convenient it might be, people will fight it.. I guess those people who fight Paypass/Paywave would rather go back to the old imprinting method. (And then ask for the carbon paper...yeah, like THAT is going to protect them.). There isn't a big enough "facepalm" image to accurately depict my reaction to that statement... |
